Charlevoix business invests in solar power

Manthei Landscape Supply, a division of MDC Contracting, on U.S. 31 South began using solar energy in February. The solar field provides energy to the brick-making plant that produces the company’s landscaping materials used in retaining walls to pavers.

“When it is sunny all day we produce quite a bit of energy,” Manthei said. “It is quite a bit of power at 545 kilowatts on a sunny day. When we are producing more than 500 kilowatts that is good.”
