Last year Sri Narendra Modi, Honourable Chief Minister of Gujarat, said, "…Gujarat is an ideal place for solar power generation because of large open space for solar panels and high-intensity solar radiation….our plans are to make Gujarat an international solar hub for manufacturing solar power equipment, research and development and for generating solar energy".
Since then, India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued a draft solar policy for Phase II of the country’s Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM), outlining its strategy to install 10GW by 2017 through mostly utility-scale projects. Such state-led incentives will ensure the solar industry in India will continue to flourish.
Welspun Energy’s recent announcement of establishing a research lab for the advancement of solar technology in the ‘gateway to solar’ region of Gujarat will also increase international interest.
The upcoming Indian Solar Summit will play its part again this year in providing local and international developers, investors and suppliers the opportunity to take advantage of the incentives marked by the current developments in the market.
Occurring on 18-19 April this year at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, the Indian Solar Summit conference will highlight finance and subsidies in rooftop installations, trade and supply policies, solar energy storage, developments and projects across India as well as design and BIPV for the masses.
Contributing speakers will include D.J Pandian, IAS, Principal Secretary of the Energy & Petrochemicals Department, Government of Gujarat, Naoki Sakai, Senior Climate Change Specialist of Asian Development Bank and Finlay Colville, Vice President of SolarBuzz.
With last year’s show attracting over 750 conference delegates, numbers are expected to increase this year organised by Solar Media. Registration to the exhibition is free and now open throughwww.solarsummitindia.com while details of delegate tickets to the conference are available here. Follow:@IndianSolar2013
